    19 - 20 April, 2004
11th Conference and Workshop on Electron Backscatter Diffraction:
    Its Applications and Related Techniques.
    University of Sheffield.

The main aim of the 11th conference/workshop is to provide the forum for the exchange of ideas between those interested and/or active in this field.
A combination of factors, like HR SEMs (particularly modern FEG SEMs), high sensitivity CCD cameras and the ever growing speed and storage capacity of computers which allows for processing of vast amount of data, has made EBSD into an indispensable tool for characterisation of materials, partly because EBSD deals very successfully with certain limitations of X-ray diffraction and TEM methods.

Deadline: Contributions are invited for the EBSD meeting, to be presented orally or as a poster (approximately 200 words). Abstracts should be submitted to the RMS office, to the address below or by email, before 15 February 2004.
Organiser: Dr. P. Korgul, The University of Sheffield

     3 - 7 October, 2004
Symposium on Texture and Microstructure Analysis of Functionally Graded Materials (SOTAMA-FGM).
Center of Excellence at IMIM (PAN), Kraków (Poland).

The research symposium will be the first meeting devoted to the structure inhomogeneity of functionally graded materials, providing a present state of knowledge on advanced laminar structures, micro- and nano structure of multi functional materials, surface and interface engineering, new bio- and eco- materials, their technology of production, and investigation methods. The discussion on new innovative science will constitute a major part of the program, as it is reflected by the wide range of oral and poster presentations.
The intention of the organizers is that the symposium will be an interdisciplinary forum for exchanging ideas and experience between researchers and engineers, who work at universities, in research centers and in industry. SOTAMA-FGM is expected to establish new cooperation links between research groups, aimed at developing technologies in the field of advanced materials.
